The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have introduced several significant changes to the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for 2024. Here are the key updates:

JEE Main 2024 Changes

  1. Exam Pattern: The JEE Main 2024 will be conducted in two sessions instead of four. The first session will be held in January, and the second session in April1.
  2. Negative Marking: Negative marking will be applied to both Section A and Section B of the exam.
  3. Reduced Application Fees: The application fees for male candidates under the General, General-EWS, and OBC NCL categories have been reduced to Rs 900.
  4. New Website Address: The official JEE Main website has been updated to jeemain.nta.ac.in.
  5. Registration Options: Candidates can now register using an Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) ID or DigiLocker.
  6. Reduced Exam Cities: The number of exam cities has been reduced to 300 from 304.

JEE Advanced 2025 Changes

  1. Eligibility Criteria: The eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2025 have been revised. Candidates must be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in the JEE Main 2025 (Paper 1) to qualify2.
  2. Number of Attempts: Candidates can now attempt the JEE Advanced exam up to three times in three consecutive years, an increase from the previous limit of two attempts.
  3. Age Limit: The age limit for candidates has been set to those born on or after October 1, 2000. SC, ST, and PwD candidates receive a five-year age relaxation3.
  4. Class 12 Appearance: Candidates must have appeared for their Class 12 (or equivalent) exam for the first time in 2023, 2024, or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
  5. Previous IIT Admissions: Candidates who have previously accepted or joined any IIT under JoSAA Business Rules or had their admission cancelled are ineligible for JEE Advanced 2025.
